We are a voluntary Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Wolverhampton called Wulfruna Land & Water Lifesavers, set-up as a charity using the CIO Foundation Model.
The team takes its name from the City of Wolverhampton’s founder Lady Wulfruna (c.935-1005). Wulfruna was a Saxon noblewoman from the Kingdom of Mercia, whom in 985 was granted lands by King Æthelred II. The land was referred to as “a Heanton” (the Saxon name for high place), thus Wulfruna’s Heanton (Wolverhampton) was born.
