National Pool Lifeguard Qualification Generation 9

The NPLQ is the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the UK and Ireland and is also internationally recognised. More than 40,000 pool lifeguards qualify with the RLSS UK every year, and there are currently more than 80,000 pool lifeguards qualified in the NPLQ – 95% of all UK pool lifeguards.  

RLSS UK is regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA in Northern Ireland.

Lifeguard Course Prerequisites  

Every candidate attending a NPLQ course must be 16-years-old at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

  • Jump/dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits

About

All candidates will be required to pass a pre-course swim test prior to the course start date to ensure they are competant to take the course. The date for this test is yet to be confirmed and will be comunicated to candidates in due course.

One Leisure has free parking facilities and also a cafe on site where you can pre-order any food required throughout the day, or you may bring your own packed lunch. You will be required to get in the pool everyday where you must wear T-shirt and shorts over your swim costume.

You must complete the course in its entireity and all course materials will be supplied to you on the first day. Please bring photo ID with you on your pre-course swim test as this is part of your registration. (Date for the pre-course swim test to be confirmed)

The exam for the course will be held on Saturday 15th April, time to be confirmed.
